A Connectional Church
MPC is just one piece of a larger web of ministry and community building. We maintain relationships with a number of local and international community ministries, as well as denominational bodies. We believe in building relationships to foster change and in redistributing the resources we have to build a more just world!
SAGE (Stewardship Action Group for Earth)
SAGE connects members of our church and community to education, advocacy, and service opportunities that address environmental injustice and climate change. We work primarily through partnerships with Interfaith Power and Light, Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, and the restoration of our own woodland.
MPC’s Apiary
Our congregation, with Divinity Lutheran up the road, jointly cares for two beehives in our forest. In August, we gather for a Honey Harvest, and sell the honey in the church office (unless you’re a first-time visitor - then we have a jar of honey just for you!).
More Light Presbyterians
MLP’s mission statement is, “Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.” We are one of the 230 churches connected to their mission!
Presbytery of Baltimore
The Presbyterian Church (USA) is partially governed by geographic bodies called presbyteries. Ours is called the Presbytery of Baltimore. We gather as a connectional church quarterly, and elect commissioners to represent our progressive mission both there and at the General Assembly, where all presbyteries in the USA gather every 2 years.
Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC)
This ministry combines the efforts of 48+ Towson-area churches to serve local residents with food, emergency financial assistance and referrals to community service agencies. The Center is located at 116 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Towson, 21204. Phone: 410-785-4856. Visit the ACTC website at www.actconline.info
Woodbourne-McCabe Neighborhood and Habitat Partnership
What began as a coalition of Presbyterian churches working alongside the neighborhood association to rehab homes, developed into a larger partnership. Over the last several years, the work grew from transactional home-repair to relationship-driven summer camp, kickball games, and food delivery.
ACTC Detention Center Support
People released from the Baltimore County Detention Center face obstacles as they put their lives back together. This ministry of ACTC tries to ease a difficult reentry.
Accompaniment in El Salvador
Our relationships with our sister parish, Maria Madre de los Pobres, in El Salvador has taken on a number of forms and flavors over the years! Currently, members of MPC can sign up to be godparents to children in the parish.
Child Health Foundation
Founded by members of MPC, CHF has been a long-standing partner. Currently, CHF’s core initiative is providing what they call Innovative Small Grants to many organizations whose foci are on low-cost, highly effective health issues as oral rehydration therapy, breastfeeding, immunizations, bed nets and clean water.
Friends of Butoke
Also founded by a member of MPC, Friends of Butoke has recently transitioned into the hands of a local leader and physician, and remains a partner for us. This community development agency in Democratic Republic of Congo works with victims of poverty, oppression, and abuse in areas of food security, health care, nutrition/food security, and safety.
